India's passport photo rules changed in 2025 and are enforced automatically from 16 February 2026. The photo is 35 x 45 mm, but the Passport Seva portal accepts only a digital JPEG of exactly 630 x 810 pixels between 10 and 250 KB — upload anything else and the portal rejects it on the spot. Two things catch people out: your face must fill 80–85% of the frame (larger than most countries), and the background must be pure white — the cream and off-white shades India used to accept now cause rejection.
